Let’s face it, most of us would rather start pressing all the buttons than read any sort of instruction manual. It’s no different with learning photography, in particular the fundamentals of manual photography. You just want to start producing great images, without having to trawl through vast amounts of complex information.

Through print and interactive mediums, this project explores the way communication design can assist how we digest and retain information. Taking both the complex and the technical, then simplifying it – creating a visual representation that is easy to follow, absorb and learn.

Studio practice allowed for the exploration of the theories associated with information design, in particular functionality and universality. The project’s function and connection with a vast audience was established through investigations into pictograms, grid structures, typography, legibility and the use of colour as a tool of differentiation.
