Monash Art Design & Architecture is proud to announce its Inaugural Architecture competition. The aim of the competition is to encourage students to showcase their drive and ability to pursue a professional degree in Architecture and to recognise architecture education in Malaysia.


Terms and Conditions


1. Eligibility
The competition is open to students and professionals in Malaysia. The projects must be carried out individually (not in groups).

Category A: High School (year 11 and 12) and Diploma of Architecture students
Category B: Student currently pursuing Bachelor in Architecture or Bachelor Architecture graduates (Part 1)


2. Free Registration
No fee or other payment will be required of those entering the competition. Please REGISTER HERE.


3. Awards

Category A Grand Prize:
• Award Certificate
• Monash Architecture Study Grant of AUD 10000 (around MYR 33,000) to study Architecture program at MADA

Category A Prizes for Three (3) Runners Up:
• Award Certificate
• MADA Study Grant of AUD 4000 (around MYR 13,500) to study Architecture program at MADA

Category B Grand Prize:
• Award Certificate
• Monash Architecture Study Grant of AUD 10000 (around MYR 33,000) to study Architecture program at MADA
• The projects will be featured on the MADA website

Category B Prizes for Three (3) Runners Up:
• Award Certificate
• MADA Study Grant of AUD 4000 (around MYR 13,500) to study Architecture program at MADA


4. Key dates

Launch date of the competition: Wednesday 1 November 2017
Closing date for submission of projects: Sunday 31 December 2017
Announcement of results: Monday 15 January 2018


5. Submission of Project Folio

Each applicant must submit a maximum of 500 words essay on why you deserve the prize.
You will also need to submit a project folio as per your category. By submitting your folio, you certify it is your own original work.

Category A
Describe a problem that you have observed in your city. This can be spatial, social, cultural, economic, political, etc. Then, explain how you think architecture can help solve this problem.

Your response should be approximately 200 words (must be in English) and may include images, photographs, rough sketches, drawings or other media that you want to communicate ideas. It should show the Juries how you approach issues and how you articulate your ideas in relation to these issues. You are encouraged to be imaginative and ambitious in your response. You can propose ideas that are inventive, provocative and speculative. There is no single or correct answer. We are interested in your ideas and the thinking behind them.

Format your response as one single sided A3 page PDF. The size must not exceed 5 MB.

Category B
You must provide four (4) Architectural design projects, up to five (5) A3 images for each project.

Your projects need to showcase your capabilities across a range of project types and scales. You must include drawings or photographs of the design projects, including plans, sections, details and rendered views. For each project please provide a short description of the project brief, site and aims.

Format your projects as a multipage PDF. The size must not exceed 15 MB.
