In my work I have continued to explore industrial and suburban landscapes at night. During the day these areas are often viewed as 'dreary' and 'dull' but with nightfall the experience of walking through these places is transformed. The stillness and quietness of night combined with the pockets of artificial light provided by the scattered street lamps available creates an almost ethereal sensation, leaving the work to become emotional responses to these spaces. Absence of human life and narrative potential are constant themes in most of the images as it allows for the viewer to envision endless dramatic possibilities. Many of the subjects/objects depicted are commonplace to everyday life therefore they can become overlooked and through using the medium of photography I am attempting to formally recognise and acknowledge these forgotten elements of our suburban landscape.
