This project reflects my interest in how the weather conditions can have an impact on the boundaries between the interior and exterior of architectural spaces. The Pavilion which is at Southbank in the CBD, draws from the ephemeral qualities of the weather to regulate and adapt itself over time. The design relates to the conceptual and physical nature of filtration. It explores how programme is arranged, privacy and adjacencies are created, and how thresholds are formalized. The project addresses three user groups: the everyday working people from the surrounding offices, the tourists visiting Melbourne and the street performers/entertainers. The aim is to filter, regulate and adjust the multiple user groups through the interior qualities of the pavilion at different times of the year to create a balanced programme.
