The essence of belonging is discovering spaces of connection within habituated settings. By supporting disconnected members of society The Cocoon aims to establish connections with the greater public.

The program facilitates homeless women and children in an Employment and Housing model, creating a space whereby less fortunate people have a home and a feeling of joint ownership within a collective environment.

Its program is based on the theory of a Kibbutz, a unique community, dedicated to mutual aid and social justice, a socioeconomic system based on the principle of joint ownership, equality and cooperation of production. The principal of the Kibbutz is ‘from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.’

The Cocoons workplace is a kitchen with a restaurant diner for Melbourne’s homeless and less fortunate. In addition, a mobile Kitchen van deposits to those in need around Melbourne’s homeless hotspots aiding the future of homelessness.
